What a fun song! From the album “Battle Studies” – which, by the way, you should buy – this song is a ton of fun to play. This is my personal rendition of it, for fun.
I will be uploading a “how to play this song” to threechordguitar.com soon.
Wrote and recorded this song in an hour today after a full day of work. Just came home, kissed me wife, went down to the studio, picked up the acoustic guitar, started strumming. Came up with the first line, then the rest followed like unraveling the yarn from a wool sweater.
Recorded using:
Ovation Elite T
Kentucky KM-675 mandolin
Fender Jazz Bass
TC Helicon Harmony G
Another wonderful Guy Clark song – though I seem to recall he may have had a co-writer for this one. Anyway, as an immigrant myself, and a lucky grandson to boot, this song tugged at my heart strings. Emmylou Harris also has a stunning version of this song.

An original song, written and recorded today about the importance of finding solace in music, whether as a listener or a performer. Human emotion sometimes cannot be explained and expressed using words, but music can be both a catalyst and a release mechanism that can bring peace of mind.
Norah Jones is so talented, I cannot help but be a fan of hers. She write, sing, play the piano, act, groove, and always has the best musicians around her.
Yes, I played all the instruments you hear in that track. It started as a fun project to create a backing track for myself to practice, and it ended up w/ all these tracks an hour later. Fun was had by all, no animals were hurt during the making of this track either
